Being a mother is, at times, a thankless job… oh who am I kidding – it’s always a thankless job! But you don’t become a mother for the accolades. No, you become a mother for the money. HA! Okay, you really become a mother because you just love having to check your shirt every time you leave the house, just in case there is poo, pee, puke, or some other word that begins with “p” (because we all know that everything gross begins with “p”) on it.
You love always having to scope out where the restroom is in any venue you happen to visit, because you know when you hear the phrase “I gotta go potty”, you have 5 minutes or less to get to the restroom unless you want to deal with one of those icky words beginning with “p”.
And you especially love that your hand is now the receptacle for anything that your child once had in his mouth but no longer wants (i.e., gum, steak that took too long to chew, or anything deemed “yucky”).
Mothers Day is your children’s opportunity to let you know how much they appreciate everything you do.. from the poo to the puke and everything in between. And Mother’s Day is your husband’s opportunity to say, “Thanks for doing all the things *I* don’t want to do.”
So this year, to all the moms out there – I hope you get fantastic Mothers Day gifts!
